• Manuel Viola was born in Saragossa in the year 1916. Leandro Cristófol y Crous Vidalbegan in the art like poet in the magazine Art, which it founded with Grace Llimona.

    In addition to poet and painter, he was a theatrical designer and theoretically. In 1934 it went away to Barcelona to study Philosophy and Letters and the group of BarcelonaAdlán was assigned. One day he said, “I am an unsuccessful poet. This of turning me into painter has been an accident”.


    In 1940 he settled in Paris, where it contacted the surrealistic poet Benjamin Perret,Picasso and the abstract painter henri Goetz. On the following year, it moved to Normandy, where it initiated his painter’s career. It informed in the clandestine publications of the surrealistic group main Plume. In 1944 it realized his first works to the oil.

    In his life it was with two women, Lorenza Iche, with the one that married and had a daughter; and later it established another relation with Maria Asunción Arroyo. In 1949 it returned to Spain, to Saragossa; and soon it fixed his residence in Torremolinos and later in El Escorial.

    It took part, under Manuel’s pseudonym, in diverse collective exhibitions, of which there stand out Spanish of the School of Paris. In the year 1958 it began to be part of thegroup Step.

    Since then expressionist began developing his big work. In 1964 it exhibited in the Biennial one of Venice, and on the following year it did his first individual exhibition,Manuel Viola, in the Room of the Headquarter of Fine arts, Madrid.

    In 1972, after having exhibited in many places, like Oslo, New York, Venice or Sao Paulo, an anthological sample was realized in the palace of the Market of Saragossa. In 1980, with Pablo Serrano, it received the golden medal of Saragossa.

    He died on March 8, 1987 in the St Lawrence of El Escorial. In 1989 a posthumous anthology was realized, in the Sástago palace. Finally, it is a question of one of the big Aragonese painters of the XXth century. It obtained big fame in Paris, where it frequented Hans Hartung, Francis Picabia, between the already renowned ones.
